The Process We Used to Evaluate

I visited several shops across the state to check out the best mountain bike gear, from tires and helmets to gloves and hydration packs.

The only requirement for my testing samples was that they were new products (i.e., no samples from last season) and that they came in one of the price categories I’d be considering: $50–$100, $100–$200, and $200+.

I assembled a laundry list of gear for each category, drawn from across the industry. We assembled these kits with an eye toward versatility: Each kit should have items that could be mixed and matched to create multiple looks or performance combinations.

For example, we stocked our tire kit with two pairs of aggressive treads (one knobby mud guard tire and one semi-aggressive trail tire), plus one pair of lightweight slicks for road use—enough options to choose a good option depending on your riding conditions (and your mood).

We also included at least one helmet that was designed to fit well with eyeglasses; at least one pair of sunglasses; gloves; shorts; three shirts/jerseys; socks; an arm warmers; leg warmers; a base layer top and bottom; a waterproof jacket (which can double as rain gear); pants/trousers; shoes (two pairs); helmets (two types); lights (one front light and one rear light); a saddle bag for carrying small stuff like tools and nutrition bars; hydration packs for working out or running errands around town.

GIYO High Pressure Shock Pump

What We Think About This

The Giyo 300 PSI Max Shock Pump is specifically made for mountain bikes, so it does not pump up car tires. It has a unique nozzle that seals better than most pumps we tested, and its lever lock head makes it easier to use than other pumps we tried.

It’s also built better than most pumps we tried, and our testers have had great experiences with Giyo’s customer service. It’s made in Taiwan, and it’s sold at a lower price than most other high-quality shock pumps.

Even if you don’t end up needing the pump, you’ll still probably make money on the deal. And as with all our picks, you’re covered by a lifetime warranty from Giyo’s parent company, JT\Velo\Santos.

The company has stellar customer service, so if you do run into issues, you can get help.

The Giyo pump’s handle is made of rubber and is bigger than most other pumps’ handles, so it should be easier to grip. We were unable to get a good look at the handle in online photos, but you should be able to find a way to confirm this before buying.

Bicycle Lights (2 Tire) Bicycle Accessories

What We Think About This

We have tested so many bike accessories over the years, and we always come back to the same two favorites: the Be Bright Wheel Brighteners and the Be Seen Wheel Lights. We’ve found that these products continue to be the most reliable, long-lasting, and easy-to-install bike lights you can buy.

The Be Bright Wheel Brighteners are a great option if you want to keep things simple and sleek. They slip onto your bike’s spokes and automatically turn on every time you start riding. They’re bright enough to be visible from a distance, but they don’t look gaudy—they’ll fit in on almost any type of bike.

The Be Seen Wheel Lights are a little fancier, but they’re just as bright and simple to install. They’re also brighter than most other lights we’ve tested—they have a wide viewing angle, so motorists will see you from more than just the side. They’re available in a variety of colors and make a fun way to add some flair to your ride.

MASPODER Bike Repair Kit

What We Think About This

The MASPODER Bike Repair Kit (with Mini Pump and Saddle Bag) is the best choice if you’re just getting into cycling. In an emergency, you can quickly fix your broken bicycle, such as leaking tires, with this specialist kit.

The kit contains a large variety of tools, including specialty bike tools, so you can tackle most issues, but it’s also small enough to store discreetly either in your home or in your bike saddlebag. The saddlebag is made of high-quality 600D oxford fabric, which is waterproof in light rain, but more important, the fabric is also sturdy and tear-resistant.

The size of the bag is adequate for storing all the tools and other belongings you’ll need for a ride. The stainless-steel pump is sturdy and durable, made of stainless steel and plastic, and is compact enough to fit in most bike bags. The pump can fill up your tires quickly, and the pressure gauge is accurate and easy to read.

The multi-tool in this kit is fairly basic—it contains several types of socket hex wrenches/Allen wrenches, flat wrenches, slot screwdriver, cross screwdriver, and a bicycle spoke wrench—but it should be able to handle most common bike repairs. The tire repair kit in this kit includes a 3-in-1 tire lever and 12 self-adhesive patches (no glue required).

The tire levers are made of high-strength plastic that is not easily damaged, and they also come with a filing blade for easy maintenance use. The self-adhesive patches can be used without glue, providing strong support for emergency repairs.

The tools and patches in this kit are all high-quality items, including the pump and the multitool. Each item in our brand is strictly inspected to ensure the good quality rate is higher than 99.5%. Our brand guarantees top quality, you can buy our products with confidence.

If you have any problem during the use, please contact our customer service, we will provide you with satisfactory after-sales service. Don’t hesitate, just buy it!

BALEAF Men’s 3D Padded Bike Shorts

8.3

What We Think About This

The Baleaf Men’s 3D Padded Bike Shorts are comfortable, lightweight, and breathable. The fabric wicks sweat away from your skin, keeping you dry and cool during a ride.

The elastic waistband is wide enough to accommodate a variety of body types and is also soft and breathable. The 3D-shaped padding in the ideal place is adequately sized and thick enough to offer decent protection during middle-distance riding.

The flat seams on this bike shorts for men with contrast color seams provide more stylish choices. We think these padded bike shorts are the best choice for people who ride on paved roads or trails.

However, if you’re looking for something that’s more functional for mountain biking, these may not be the best pick for you.

It’s one of the only models we tested that is compatible with the iPhone 14, 13, 12, 11, SE (2nd gen), XS Max, XS, XR, X; all Samsung Galaxy phones, including S22, S21, S20, S10.

It’s also a great gift for yourself or for the cyclist in your life. The company’s customer support team is on-hand 24/7 to help you with all of your needs surrounding bicycle accessories.

Things to Keep in Mind Before Buying

We decided to focus on accessories that make a big difference—or that a lot of people want and would use. Ideally, we wanted accessories that also improve safety, comfort, or mobility.

Using our research and personal experience, we identified the most promising accessories to test. We looked for products with good user reviews and strong features that would appeal to avid cyclists.

We narrowed the list down even further based on which items seemed most likely to be useful in everyday riding. We then evaluated each remaining accessory using these criteria:

Value

The price should be reasonable for what you get. Accessories can add up quickly, so we prioritized those that offer the most value for the price.

Some inexpensive accessories may not last as long as more-expensive options, but they’re fine if you’re just looking for a quick upgrade or something to try out.

Functionality

The item should perform its intended purpose well without being overly complicated or difficult to use.
